Opinion : Should everyone be self-employed today.

Just like not everyone gets married, not everyone can be self employed- we all subconsciously know it but we tend to run away from that fact because we can, yes, we can.

Last week, a friend of mine sent me a message asking for advice on how to be a better employee since he is the kind that likes to do things his way. Although with great outcomes, most employers don’t like that style of work hence it has made him a job monger  blame it on his straight forwardness.

Almost shockingly, he hinted on wanting to be self employed claiming that employment is horrible and no one should ever have to suffer the misery of being an employee.

Honestly speaking, being an employee is horrible big time but it’s necessary. We all can’t be employers just like we all can’t be self employed. Some people are not well suited to employ anyone, not even themselves, because let’s face it, as much as they want to, they can’t deliver.

Mentorship about self employment

In schools and during seminars, people are told/encouraged to look out for the genius inside, encouraged to be self employed. This message isn’t meant for all even when all listen to it.

I am not saying that you can’t be self employed, you can be. But, are you ready for that job? Self employment is a full-time job and unlike being employed, you never have the luxury of taking a day until everything has reached that point of running itself, but the benefits are far to great.

We should embrace the fact that probably employment is a path through which being self employed can be forged. As humans, we should stop rushing out into the unknown just because we have been told we can. Often times when young people notice that they can be self-employed, they blow it all away, the burn bridges and down they fall.

Over to you, Should everyone be self employed?
