The Goethe-Zentrum Open Photo Contest 2019

The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) are looking for photographs that capture the vision on and of the middle class in Uganda by young up and coming photographers who will stand a chance to wish cash prizes.

The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/ Ugandan German Cultural Society is an apolitical and non-profit organization (cultural society) based in Kampala. It is a cooperation partner of the Goethe-Institut that yearly supports the projects of the cultural society with financial help.

The middle class in Sub-Saharan African countries, such as Uganda, is rising and defined by criteria such as secondary schooling completion, decent housing, and skilled employment. Though the Ugandan middle-class population accounts a small part with 6.9 percent, it recently explores a fast-growing with challenges and opportunities ahead, how to prove themselves on the business market and face social problems.

Goethe-Zentrum is requesting for your vision on and of the middle class in Uganda, captured in one photograph.

Benefits

  • The 3 best photos will receive cash prizes of UGX 1,250,000, UGX 625,000 and UGX 420,000 respectively.
  • Besides that, the 3 winners will get the chance to be part of the symposium “The Lived Realities of Uganda’s Middle Class” on Friday, 16th of August 2019 in Kampala on the Makerere Campus, to showcase their photo on stage.
  • Furthermore, all the best photographs will be printed and exhibited at this symposium.

How to Submit

Please submit only one selected photo in good quality (in case you will get selected for printing) with a short description of your photo, as well as your CV to cultural@goethezentrumkampala.org.
