DATA4CHAN.GE 2019 (Five-Day Workshop In Nairobi)
DATA4CHAN.GE brings talented people from the visual storytelling community together with civil society organizations that have fascinating original datasets and powerful stories to tell.
DATA4CHANGE 2019, Nairobi (30 May – 3 June)
A DATA4CHANGE flagship event is a five-day residential workshop with full immersion into the inner workings of a data visualisation studio. CSOs and NGOs working on some of the world’s most pressing social and political problems are matched with carefully selected teams of industry experts covering the disciplines of data analysis, journalism, graphic design, and web development.
Since 2014, more than 200 people from over 40 countries have attended DATA4CHANGE flagship events in London, Beirut, and Kampala. Data4change are excited to announce that applications are now open to attend the 2019 event, which will be held at Nairobi Garage.
They have also added Code for Africa on board as their event partner.
It’s also the first time that they’re hosting a thematic DATA4CHANGE. All of this year’s projects will be about digital rights, internet freedom and/or freedom of expression online. DATA4CHANGE is a proud member and implementing partner of UPROAR, a coalition of organisations working to raise the profile of digital rights in 21 countries. DATA4CHANGE Nairobi 2019 supports the work of UPROAR.
Through a competitive process that begins with this open call for applications, they will select four CSOs or NGOs working on themes relating to digital rights and internet freedom to participate in D4C Nairobi.

For the creatives;
Data4change is after people who work as data researchers and analysts, graphic designers, UX designers, web developers and data journalists. Because each creative team only has 4-6 members they are especially fond of people with more than one skill set.
These events are fast-paced, so no matter what role you apply for you need to be someone who thrives under pressure. You also need to love teamwork, because DATA4CHANGE is all about collaboration and skill sharing across borders and disciplines.
