The Third Data Club Uganda, A Networking Workshop on Data

Data Club Uganda is a networking workshop organized by Pollicy to bring together data enthusiasts from government, civil society, academia and the private sector to chat, discover and network on all things data.

Pollicy is a technology consulting and development firm aimed at improving government service delivery through improved civic engagement and participation. They believe data and the ability to act upon data are critical to the development of any country. Any planning, allocation, and implementation requires data to effectively run/iterate programs, draw investments and adequately measure progress towards socio-economic goals.

Pollicy’s Data Club Uganda aims to create a sense of community amongst people and organizations working with data and to provide resources, support, and opportunities to both aspiring data scientists and companies looking for data services.

Data Club Uganda Agenda

  • Rositsa Zaimova from Dalberg Data Insights: Using Big Data and AI for Social Good

To respond to crisis and vulnerabilities and ensure no one is left behind, governments, NGOs and international development actors need real-time and actional insights to make better decisions. Dalberg Data Insights would like to present AIDA, the Action Insights Data Platform which was built in partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund and the Belgian Government.

AIDA was tested in Uganda where Dalberg Data Insights has built four data products in the form of algorithms and dashboards using big data, censuses, and surveys. The data products were co-designed and tested with Hunger Fighters Uganda, UNCDF MM4P, ROM Transportation Engineering and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). The dashboards support data-driven decisions about food security, financial inclusion, and urban planning.

  • Lightening Talks
  1. Phillip Ahereza from Code for Africa: Sensors Africa to monitor Air, Water, and Sound Pollution
  2. Lucio Melita from Dalberg Data Insights: Measuring Mobility Performance with KCCA
